The Mentor2Thrive program is part of the Miami Valley Leadership Foundation. Caring adults (mentors) meet with their mentee (student) once a week during school hours. It's about being a positive, steady relationship in the child's life.
Mentors are background checked and receive training before being placed with a student who has been identified as someone who would benefit from some extra care from an adult friend. The hour is spent playing games, talking, doing crafts, whatever you decide! Ideally the mentor/mentee relationship continues as the child progresses through each school year, but a one year commitment is all that is required.
Southern Hills currently has two adults participating in the program at Southdale Elementary School, just down the street from the church here in Kettering. For more information contact Karen Bustamante
